The Town of Greater Napanee is gearing up for Earth Day with a series of community-focused events aimed at promoting sustainability, reuse and neighbourhood pride.
A free seedling giveaway is set for May 2 at 9 a.m., offering residents a chance to pick up young trees while supplies last. A variety of species will be available, including maples, pines, oaks and a new addition this year, the tulip tree.
Bethany Chadwick shared with myFM the event will take place at the Best and Bash arena on McPherson Drive.
The town is also organizing a community cleanup weekend of April 25, encouraging residents to help tidy local spaces. Participants are asked to register online, note their cleanup area and leave collected garbage in designated spots for pickup by public works crews the following week.
Meanwhile, Giveaway Day is planned for April 25, giving residents a chance to place unwanted household items at the curb for others to take and reuse. Items should be set out by 7 a.m. and clearly marked as free, with unclaimed goods removed afterward.
Kristie Kelly, Director of Environmental Services, shared items should be set out by 7 a.m. and clearly marked as free, with unclaimed goods removed afterward.
Officials say the events highlight simple ways residents can support the environment while connecting with the community.
