A water safety warning has been extended across the Cataraqui Region as rising water levels continue to pose risks.
Cataraqui Conservation says recent rainfall could lead to fast-moving water in local streams and lakes. Areas across the region saw up to 31 millimetres of rain at the end of March, with more expected through early April.
Officials say streamflows are already about 1.5 times higher than normal for this time of year. With the snowpack gone and the ground unable to absorb much water, runoff is expected to increase.
Water managers are adjusting dam flows to control rising levels and prepare for the summer season.
Flooding is not expected, but some low-lying areas could see minor pooling.
Residents are urged to stay away from fast-moving water, dams, and slippery shorelines, as conditions can change quickly and become dangerous.
The advisory remains in effect until April 9.
