Be a Donor Month is helping raise awareness about organ and tissue donation across eastern Ontario as local groups and health agencies work to encourage more people to register as donors.
Lesley Kimble says the campaign focuses on education and information about both living and deceased donation through the Trillium Gift of Life Network and partner organizations.
She highlighted Green Shirt Day, April 7th, as a major part of the campaign, which began in 2018 after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and the story of donor Logan Boulet.
Local municipalities have also supported Be a Donor Month through proclamations and upcoming flag-raising events. Greater Napanee’s flag raising will take place on April 7th at 11am at 99 Advance Ave.
The Transplant Advocate Association says these efforts help spread messages beyond what organizations can reach on their own.
Kimble also shared a personal story about her husband, who received a double lung transplant and lived several more years after a long illness.
The Transplant Advocate Association continues to raise awareness across eastern Ontario, encouraging residents to register, learn more and take part in community events during Be a Donor Month.
