The Town of Greater Napanee has issued a total burn ban beginning April 1, 2026, as dry spring conditions increase the risk of fast-spreading fires.
Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue has also issued a full burn ban effective April 1 at midnight.
The Greater Napanee Fire Department says the ban is being introduced during the high-risk period after snowmelt and before vegetation fully greens. Officials warn that dry grass, low humidity, and seasonal winds make it easy for fires to grow out of control.
The ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including campfires, brush piles, burn barrels, chimeneas, and yard waste fires. Officials say all burn permits have been suspended, and the online system will not allow residents to activate permits during the restriction.
Some cooking and heating devices are still allowed, including charcoal and wood pellet grills, as well as propane and natural gas appliances.
The municipality says it will continue to monitor conditions and adjust restrictions as needed. Residents are reminded that property owners are responsible for any fires they start and may be charged for suppression costs.
