Quinte Conservation has extended its flood outlook statement as heavy rain and melting snow are expected to increase water levels across the region.
Forecasters say between 25 and 35 millimetres of rain could fall in southern parts of the watershed and Prince Edward County on Tuesday, with slightly lower amounts north of Highway 7. Warmer temperatures later this week are also expected to speed up snowmelt in northern areas.
Officials say creeks and rivers are already swollen from recent weather. Water levels are expected to rise again, leading to nuisance flooding in low-lying areas, ditches and urban spaces. Larger rivers and lakes are currently stable but may respond quickly to the added water.
While widespread flooding is not expected, areas such as Prince Edward County, the Salmon and Napanee watersheds, and the Moira watershed could see short-term impacts.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to take precautions, including checking sump pumps and clearing drainage systems. Authorities also warn that ice conditions are unsafe and should be avoided.
The advisory remains in effect until April 15.
