Today we celebrate VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY on 88.7 myFM…
Artie Wilson has supported the junior C hockey team for more than a decade, helping behind the scenes on game days. His duties include filling water bottles, preparing Gatorade, organizing tape and sticks, and assisting team staff as needed.
He said his volunteer journey began after he was injured by a puck while attending a game as a fan and was helped by the team’s trainer. After being helped himself, it inspired him to give it back and start helping.
Outside the rink, Wilson also helps neighbours, especially with shoveling during winter. He shared he dosen’t expect anything in return.
He encouraged others to volunteer, saying, “Go for it, treat everybody with respect, and they’ll give it back to you.”
