Today we celebrate VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY on 88.7 myFM…
Cynthia Surrette, president of the Rotary Club of Napanee, said her interest in volunteering began at a young age, inspired by her parents. She shared with myFM she was raised in a family that volunteered, noting her father coached local sports and her mother helped through hospital work.
She joined the Rotary Club of Napanee in 2010 after moving to the area and quickly found her place. “The Rotary Club of Napanee welcomed me with open arms…and I never looked back,” Surrette said.
She explained that Rotary brings together people with different skills to support community projects. Past contributions include donating land for the local hospital, the former Rotary Pool/now splash pad, and the Rotary Accessible Playground.
Surrette said the club is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026, with the Market Square Improvement Project planned as a centennial gift.
For anyone thinking about volunteering, Surrette says to not be shy and don’t think you have too little to offer. “There’s always something you can do!”
