The Victorian Order of Nurses says volunteers are the backbone of many services that help seniors and people with disabilities stay in their homes across Greater Napanee and surrounding communities.
VON offers several programs, including Meals on Wheels, transportation, community diners, exercise and falls-prevention classes, respite care for caregivers, and light housekeeping support. Many of these services rely heavily on volunteers.
myFM spoke with Cindy Weese, who says volunteers play a key role in building social connections with clients.
Transportation volunteers also drive clients to medical, personal, and social appointments, including trips to Kingston, Toronto, and Ottawa. Weese shared there’s a real bond built with the clients. “Clients will often ask for the same drivers because they’ve built that rapport.”
VON says it is always looking for new volunteers, especially for its growing transportation program and Meals on Wheels.
People interested in volunteering can contact the VON office to learn more about available opportunities.
