The first day of school brings excitement for students. The feeling is perhaps the same for the new Director of Education at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board.
Carey Smith-Dewey began her new role at the school board on Monday.
She tells myFM that it was a job that she was meant to do since she was in kindergarten!
Smith-Dewey brings 28 years of experience as a teacher, vice-principal, principal, and superintendent of education.
She explains what her job is as Director of Education.
Smith-Dewey says she plans to go to each school and hear from teachers and students about what their school needs to get ahead.
Smith-Dewey says her biggest concern is navigating a school environment in a post-COVID world.
Smith-Dewey takes over from David DeSantis who retired last Friday after seven years as Director of Education.
