Shawn Davey was officially sworn in Tuesday night as the new councillor for Ward 3 in the Town of Greater Napanee.
Davey was elected during a by-election held on Jan. 19, 2026.
In the meeting to follow, Council received a summary report on the by-election, which marked the first time the town chose a vote rather than appointing a replacement councillor.
Voter turnout was 29 per cent, with 986 ballots cast out of 3,395 eligible electors. That was lower than the 37 per cent turnout recorded in the 2022 general election.
Most voters cast ballots online, accounting for more than two-thirds of all votes. Telephone and in-person voting made up the rest. Voter assistance was offered in advance, though some care home polls were cancelled due to flu outbreaks.
The by-election cost an estimated $29,000, with part of that going toward the 2026 general election. A full expense and accessibility review report will be released later this year.
