Lennox and Addington County Council is advocating for continued provincial funding for the Homelessness Prevention Program, which is in the final year of a three-year commitment ending March 31, 2026.
Acting Director of Social Services Pam Kent noted the county currently receives $2,454,600 annually for the program, which has been supported in various forms for the past 27 years. Without ongoing funding, the county could face a financial impact of about $126,000 per month in the first quarter of the next fiscal year.
Council voted to send a letter from the Warden to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, urging continued support for the program. Past funding confirmations have often arrived after the fiscal year began, making timely approval a concern. The county emphasizes the program’s importance for vulnerable residents.
