Original Article: Highway 401 westbound is fully closed at Lennox & Addington Road 4 near Odessa following a collision involving two transport trucks near Palace Road in Greater Napanee.
There is no access to Hwy. 401 westbound from L&A Road 4 or the Napanee ONroute. The emergency detour route along County Road 2 westbound is also slow moving.
Lennox and Addington OPP are asking motorists to avoid the area and delay travel if possible.
Emergency crews are also still dealing with a series of crashes along Hwy. 401, which has shut down the highway in both directions stretching from Shannonville to Brighton.
Initially, crash reports started trickling in in the westbound lanes in Trenton. Additional crashes were then being reported stretching into the Shannonville area and the full highway closure confirmed.
In an update around 11 a.m., OPP said buses were being deployed to transport stranded motorists in the area to the warming centre set up at the Trenton arena.
Police also said an estimated 50 vehicles have been involved in numerous collisions, and people should expect a prolonged closure along the highway as investigation and cleanup efforts continue.
