The Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has announced Staff Sergeant Jeff MacKinnon as its permanent Detachment Commander. MacKinnon, who has nearly 30 years of policing experience, previously served as Interim Detachment Commander for the detachment since May 2025.
A Carleton University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Law, MacKinnon began his OPP career in 1995 in Matheson, gaining five years of front-line experience. He transferred to Prince Edward County in 2000, working in front-line policing and the Crime Unit. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2008 and later to Staff Sergeant in 2018, serving as Detachment Commander in Bancroft.
MacKinnon is known for his focus on public safety, community engagement, and collaborative leadership. He says working closely with community partners is essential to addressing local priorities. OPP officials say his experience and dedication make him a strong addition to the Prince Edward County Detachment and the communities it serves.
