Correctional Service Canada says staff seized contraband and unauthorized items worth more than $200,000 at Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.
The seizures occurred on January 20, 2026, at the multi-level security federal prison and were the result of staff vigilance. CSC estimates the institutional value of the items at approximately $207,221.
Items seized included tobacco, marijuana, cannabis concentrate known as shatter, and edged weapons.
CSC says it uses a range of tools to prevent drugs and contraband from entering federal institutions. These include ion scanners and detector dogs used to search buildings, inmates, visitors, and personal property.
The agency says it is increasing security measures to help maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. CSC also works with police to investigate and take action against those attempting to bring contraband into prisons.
A toll-free tip line is available for reporting suspicious activity at federal institutions.
