UPDATE 4:53pm: The snowsquall watch has been upgraded to a warning.
—
A yellow snow squall watch has been issued for Napanee and the surrounding area, with hazardous winter weather possible on Monday.
Environment officials say lake effect snow off Lake Ontario is expected to develop late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Local snowfall amounts could reach between 10 and 20 centimetres in some areas. Poor visibility is expected at times due to heavy snow and blowing snow.
Westerly winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour are forecast to develop Monday afternoon, increasing the risk of whiteout conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero without warning.
The snow squalls could have a significant impact on Monday morning and evening rush hour traffic. Travel along Highway 401 may be hazardous at times, especially in open areas prone to blowing snow.
Residents are urged to prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. Motorists are encouraged to adjust travel plans and use caution if driving conditions deteriorate quickly.
