Ontario Provincial Police in Prince Edward County are teaming up with local banks to help residents spot and avoid scams through a new program called Officer in the Branch.
The initiative places an OPP community engagement officer inside Picton bank branches to answer questions and share fraud prevention tips. Sessions will be held Jan. 28 at CIBC, Feb. 25 at BMO, and March 25 at Scotiabank. Each event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Police say the program focuses on common scams such as gift card fraud, grandparent scams, and phishing attempts. The goal is to reach residents where they bank and support financial institutions in protecting customers.
Residents who believe they have been targeted or victimized by fraud are urged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre by phone or online. Non-emergency concerns can also be reported to the Prince Edward County OPP.
