Ground breaking for a new long term care facility in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory - August 2023
The Tsi Thonwatíhsnyes Elder Care Home, also known as the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) Elder Care Home, is set to open in Spring 2026. The long-term care home is now accepting waitlist applications through Ontario Health. The home itself does not manage the waitlist.
Applications for admission are handled by Ontario Health atHome, which will assign a Care Coordinator to assess healthcare needs and determine eligibility. Residents currently in off-territory long-term care facilities can contact Ontario Health for relocation assistance.
The home offers state-of-the-art equipment, specialized seating, and accessible facilities. Residents may retain their own physician or receive care from the in-house medical advisor. Meals follow a seasonal three-week rotation with special diets accommodated. Recreational, rehabilitation, and spiritual programs are provided, and residents are encouraged to bring personal items.
Monthly accommodation fees cover most supplies, with some additional services available. Room rates follow Ministry of Long-Term Care guidelines.
