Neighbouring MPP for Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston, John Jordan, is urging patience as some local municipalities move to oppose the proposed amalgamation of conservation authorities.
Jordan said he understands concerns raised in communities such as Greater Napanee, but stressed the plan would not eliminate conservation authorities or their responsibilities.
He said the proposal is about sharing expertise and resources while keeping local offices and knowledge in place.
Jordan added the goal is to streamline approvals without weakening environmental protections, especially as Ontario works to speed up housing
development.
The province has introduced legislation to create a new Ontario Provincial Conservation Agency and consolidate 36 conservation authorities into larger, watershed-based regions. Public consultations are ongoing.
