Loyalist Township says the recycling convenience drop-off depot at the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) will stop operating on January 1, 2026. The depot, located at 196 Lappan’s Lane, will close due to a lack of long-term funding from the Provincial recycling system operator, Circular Materials Ontario (CMO).
The last day for residents to use the depot will be Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After that date, Loyalist Township will no longer receive depot services from Kingston.
Across Ontario, residential recycling is moving to a new Provincial system funded and run by producers of recyclable materials. CMO took over blue and grey box programs for Kingston and Loyalist Township on July 1, 2025.
Household Hazardous Waste and Leaf and Yard Waste drop-off services will continue as usual. Curbside recycling remains the main method for residents under Provincial regulations. Loyalist Township is reviewing options to support residents during this transition.
