The Town of Greater Napanee is considering adding an outdoor skating rink as part of its ongoing Town Hall and Market Square renovations. The Recreation Advisory Committee recommended exploring the idea, with potential locations at the front or back of Town Hall.
The Market Square Advisory Committee, which is currently focused on interior renovations and a covered market at the back of Town Hall, will review the feasibility of a winter skating rink. The plaza in front of Town Hall, once cleared of the old fountain, could provide space for the rink and other community activities such as music events and markets.
Options include natural ice or artificial ice, similar to Kingston’s Springer Market Square. Artificial ice would increase project costs but extend usability during milder winters.
Council tasked the advisory committee to study design, size, amenities, and costs for the rink, either at Town Hall or elsewhere in the municipality.
No final decision has been made, and the feasibility study will guide future plans.
