Habitat for Humanity Proposed Triplex - Image from Greater Napanee council presentation
Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region is asking the Town of Greater Napanee to support a plan for a new affordable housing triplex on Church Street.
The proposal was presented at Greater Napanee’s Council meeting this week by CEO Gary Lees, who said the project would give more local families a path to stable homeownership.
The triplex would include two three-bedroom units and a one-bedroom lower unit, using a CMHC-approved stacked townhouse design. Habitat says the homes would be built for working families who cannot secure a traditional mortgage but have steady income and high housing need.
Families must complete volunteer hours, attend homeowner training and take part in the shared-equity model.
Lees highlighted Habitat’s growing work in Napanee, including the new ReStore opening in April at 450 Centre Street. The store is expected to generate up to $800,000 in its first year and support future builds.
Habitat is asking council to transfer the Church Street land, cover servicing to the lot line and waive development and permit fees.
The group says the support would help create long-term affordability and reinvestment in the community.
Council passed a motion to receive the deputation and to direct staff to bring back a report regarding the financial implications of the proposal.
