The Napanee Salvation Army Food Bank says demand has surged so much this year that quiet days no longer exist, and shelves are emptying faster than ever.
Abby Mills from the Napanee Salvation Army Food Bank says the team now sees busy days throughout the entire month, forcing them to buy staples just to keep food boxes complete.
To donate during this years parade, keep an eye out for Limestone Limousine and the 88.7 myFM Community Cruiser, who will be joined by the Napanee Raiders, collecting items along the parade route.
Mills tells myFM this Saturday’s Greater Napanee Parade of Lights comes at the perfect time, offering residents a chance to donate urgently needed items.
Other items they’re in need of include peanut butter, rice, pasta, and pasta sauce.
The food bank is reminding donors to check the condition of items before giving. Food that is expired, dented, rusted, or damaged cannot be handed out because it risks making someone sick and could temporarily shut the food bank down.
Mills says Napanee continues to show exceptional generosity, with many other regions envious of local support.
The Salvation Army’s kettle campaign has already raised nearly $30,000, and volunteers are still needed. Anyone able to help can call Carolyn at 613-888-4426.
