Plans to close the Napanee Health Unit site and seven other Southeast Public Health satellite offices have been paused following objections from local leaders and strong community concern.
At its Nov. 26 meeting, the Southeast Health Board voted to have the Medical Officer of Health withdraw closure recommendations and provide an initial report in December.
In an interview with the Napanee Beaver, Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson was disappointed and frustrated by the announcement of the closure, and couldn’t see how this closure would not have an effect on services.
The Southeast Health Board’s decision offers a temporary reprieve, with both mayors emphasizing ongoing engagement to ensure future public health service changes reflect regional needs.
