Barn Quilt at Springside Park in Napanee - Image from Google Maps
Addington Highlands is getting its own barn quilt trail thanks to a grant from the Lennox and Addington County Activation Fund.
Artist Pat Dubyk, known for her colourful barn quilts, is creating eight new installations in the township. The quilts are painted on weatherproof boards and can be displayed on buildings or stands.
The project was encouraged by community activist Marlean McLean, who worked with township staff and the Addington Highlands Economic Development (AHEAD) Committee to gain support.
Council recently discussed locations for two quilts on township-owned buildings, including Denbigh Hall and the Northbrook Medical Centre. The Pine Meadow Nursing Home quilt has already been installed, and a “Tree of Life” quilt honoring Reeve Henry Hogg is planned for the Flinton township office.
Dubyk has previously developed barn quilt trails in Greater Napanee and Prince Edward County, with over 300 quilts in the region. The new trail will attract tourists and celebrate local culture.
