The Napanee Raiders had a strong showing this weekend, despite feeling overshadowed by the Toronto Blue Jays performance in the world series.
Friday night, the Raiders hosted the Frankford Huskies, who scored first in the first period. Napanee quickly answered that to tie the game thanks to a goal by Owen Lutz, assisted by Luke Jarmin. After a scoreless second period, the Raiders would take the lead in the third period with a goal by Andrew Carr, assisted by Jackson Barnes. Carr then scored his second of the night, assisted by Ryan McGee and Eric Taher to take a 3-1 lead. Frankford would then score their second of the night to bring the score within one goal. But then, with less than a minute to go, Mason Goodfellow scored unassisted on the Empty Net to lead the Raiders to a 4-2 win! Raiders goalie Jacob Brown made 43 saves on 45 shots on goal.
Saturday night, the Raiders hit the road to play the Port Hope Panthers. The Raiders’ Mason Goodfellow scored first, assisted by Ben Kerr and Kaden Bynes to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Early i the second period, the Panthers scored their first of the night to tie the game. But the Raiders answered that with a goal by captain Reid Lambert, assisted by Andrew Carr and Jackson Barnes. In the third period, the Raiders scored back-to-back-to-back goals! Owen Lutz scored once and Mason Goodfellow scored twice to earn the hattrick and lead the team to a 5-1 Raiders win! Raiders goalie Denholm Blair made 24 saves on 25 shots on goal.
The Napanee Raiders are tied with Amherstview for second place in the East Tod Division standings with a 9-6 record and 18 points.
The Raiders are back in action Friday, November 7th when they Trent Hills at 7:30pm. Then Sunday, November 9th, the Raiders play in Amherstview at 7:30pm.
