Community Living Lennox and Addington is marking a major milestone as its executive director reflects on 24 years of service.
myFM spoke with ED Barb Fabius, who took on the leadership role in 2001 after working at Community Living Prince Edward.
One memory that stands out for her happened recently. A young woman is “graduating” and moving from their group home to an apartment with her brother. A success Barb says reflects the agency’s mission of fostering independence.
Lots has changed over 24 years, including the organization’s budget expanding from $500,000 to more than $5 million, while staff numbers have grown from 20 to 75.
Fabius says that with growth comes both opportunities and challenges, but staff retention remains strong.
Looking ahead, Fabius expects further growth in supported living, family home models, and ministry-funded passport programs. She says staff value learning, inclusion, and a welcoming workplace culture.
