Conservative MP Frank Caputo has introduced Bill C-225 to Parliament Last Thursday.
The Kamploops-Thompson-Nicola MP called it the most significant bill to address intimate partner violence when he addressed the house.
The bill passed first reading.
Hastings-Lennox & Addington-Tyendinaga MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman expressed her support, posting on social media, “This bill sends a clear message: Conservatives are committed to protecting women, standing with victims, and ensuring violent offenders face the full weight of the law.”
Caputo further explained what the bill would include.
The bill would also restrict release from custody for repeat offenders, and allow courts to order risk-of-reoffending assessments.
