The Town of Deseronto has announced that its transit service will close at the end of November after years of financial challenges and unsuccessful partnership efforts.
The service will continue to run on its regular schedule until December 1, 2025, with no disruptions expected before the closure date. Daily tickets and monthly passes will remain on sale until then, but no refunds will be given for unused tickets beyond November 28.
Town officials say the decision follows rising operating costs, the need to replace aging vehicles, and the loss of key funding partners, including Greater Napanee, Hastings County, and Prince Edward County. Despite efforts, no long-term regional or government funding could be secured.
“The decision to close Deseronto Transit is one of the most difficult this Council has had to make,” said Dan Johnston, Mayor of Deseronto. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the riders, staff, and partners who have supported this service over the years. While this program is ending, our commitment to seeking solutions for local transportation remains.”
After the closure, the town will introduce a community ride-sharing board to help residents with transportation.
