Fire restrictions are being reduced across Lennox and Addington County after recent rainfall and cooler temperatures lowered wildfire risks. Several municipalities announced changes to their burn bans heading into the long weekend.
In Greater Napanee, the fire department downgraded its Total Burn Ban to a Partial Burn Ban on August 28. Residents are now allowed to enjoy small campfires no larger than 60 centimetres wide by 60 centimetres high. Fires are only permitted from two hours before sunset to two hours after sunrise, and permits are available online.
Loyalist Township also shifted to a Partial Burn Ban effective August 29 at 6 p.m. Campfires, outdoor fireplaces and cooking device fires are allowed. However, brush fires, agricultural fires, other open-air burns requiring a permit and fireworks remain prohibited until further notice.
In Stone Mills Township, the fire ban was lifted on August 29 at 11 a.m., though officials reminded residents that the Forest Fire Index is still high and all by-law rules remain in effect.
Addington Highlands followed suit, lifting its total fire ban at noon on August 29.
