Quinte Conservation has issued a Level 1 Low Water Condition for the Quinte Conservation Watershed, which includes the Moira, Napanee, and Salmon Rivers, as well as all of Prince Edward County.
Officials say the region has received less than 80 per cent of normal rainfall over the past three months, leading to low water levels in streams, lakes, and groundwater. Stream flows are now at their lowest for this time of year since 2016.
A Level 1 condition means there is a risk of water supply problems, and residents are asked to reduce non-essential water use by 10 per cent. Groundwater and surface water supplies may be especially vulnerable.
The Quinte Low Water Response Team met on August 14 to review conditions and make the declaration. The advisory will stay in effect until or before September 5. Low water conditions can be reported online at Quinte Conservation’s website.
