Loyalist Township has officially launched a $2 million fundraising campaign to help revitalize the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre, a key community hub for nearly 50 years.
The project is being led by campaign chair John Armitage, a longtime local supporter of recreation and infrastructure. Armitage has made a personal donation and will lead a volunteer cabinet of community and business leaders working to raise the remaining funds.
The revitalized centre will feature a new 8-lane, 25-metre pool, a warm-water leisure pool, improved arena facilities, green energy upgrades, better accessibility, and an Indigenous Legacy Space in partnership with the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.
Funding commitments already total over $32 million from federal, provincial, and municipal sources, including the City of Kingston.
Construction is underway, and the public is now invited to help complete the final stretch. More information is available at www.wjrenewal.ca.
