Residents in Amherstview are raising concerns about a proposed change to The Windsor Retirement Residence on Park Crescent. The owner, Sunray Group, wants to rezone the building into a transitional care unit for short-term medical stays after hospital discharge.
If approved, the facility would increase its bed count from 130 to 144 and allow up to 200 occupants. Local residents say this would turn the quiet retirement home into a private medical centre, bringing more traffic and parking problems.
Neighbours told Loyalist Township council the change doesn’t fit the area and were frustrated by current parking shortages near a nearby school. The proposal includes plans to expand parking from 34 to 51 spots, but those spots would be narrower.
The township will review public feedback before making a final decision. Residents say they support health care—but not at the cost of their neighbourhood’s character and safety.
