Two people are facing impaired driving charges after separate incidents at Sandbanks Provincial Park on Saturday, June 21.
Around 6 p.m., park wardens stopped a vehicle inside the park after suspecting the driver had been drinking. Officers from the Prince Edward County OPP detachment arrived and used a roadside screening device. The driver, 24-year-old Siril Kandula of Toronto, was taken to the detachment for further testing. He was charged with impaired operation and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Kandula was released and is scheduled to appear in Picton court on July 23.
Just an hour later, OPP officers were running a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on County Road 12 near County Road 18 when they saw a vehicle turn and speed away. An officer followed the car and pulled it over nearby. The driver, 44-year-old Matthew Bouman of Loyalist Township, was also arrested and charged with impaired driving. He is scheduled to appear in Picton court on July 9.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days. Their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
