A major drug seizure has been made at Bath Institution thanks to the quick action of correctional staff.
On June 17, 2025, staff at the medium-security federal prison in Bath, discovered a suspicious package containing “shatter,” a concentrated form of cannabis. The estimated institutional value of the seized contraband is $52,000.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says the seizure is the result of staff vigilance and ongoing efforts to keep drugs and unauthorized items out of federal institutions. CSC uses tools like ion scanners and detector dogs to search inmates, visitors, buildings, and property.
CSC has increased security to stop illegal substances from entering prisons and says it continues to work closely with police to identify and take action against anyone attempting to smuggle contraband.
Officials say preventing drugs from entering prisons helps protect both inmates and staff by ensuring a safer environment for all.
