A full burn ban is now in effect across Tyendinaga Township as dry weather and extreme heat create dangerous wildfire conditions.
The Tyendinaga Township Fire Department issued the ban, citing ongoing dry ground conditions and an intense heat wave sweeping the region. Fire officials say the risk to people, property, and the environment is too high to allow any open-air burning.
The ban includes all campfires, brush burning, and burn barrels. Residents are also urged to take extra care with barbecues, machinery, and anything else that could cause a spark — including properly discarding cigarette butts.
The fire department says the ban will remain in place until further notice. Officials are monitoring weather patterns and ground conditions closely and will lift the ban only when it’s safe to do so.
For now, the message is simple: no open flames of any kind. Stay fire safe.
