Ontario Provincial Police have arrested one person and are searching for three more in connection with a serious assault in Deseronto that left one person in hospital with serious injuries.
The Lennox and Addington County OPP responded to a disturbance at a residence just after 4 a.m. on Friday, May 16. Paramedics took one person to hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
Following a detailed investigation, the L&A OPP Crime Unit issued arrest warrants for four individuals. On Wednesday, June 11, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Old Highway 2 in Belleville, where 55-year-old Jean Legault of Belleville was arrested.
Legault faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, forcible confinement, intimidation, and uttering threats. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Arrest warrants remain active for 51-year-old Cherie Pammett of Deseronto, 51-year-old Dorothy Speirs of Belleville, and 63-year-old Kerry Weeks of Marmora and Lake Township.
Police believe the assault was an isolated incident and say there is no risk to public safety.
Anyone with information is asked not to approach the wanted individuals and to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers immediately.
