The ribbon was officially cut at the new Extendicare Limestone Ridge in Kingston.
The doors to the long-term care home on Demers Avenue east of Gardiners Road first opened in late December.
Staff had their official grand opening on Wednesday.
Parlimentary assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care, John Jordan and Kingston Mayor Bryan Patterson were on hand for the ceremony.
Jordan, who is the MPP of Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, says this is part of his government’s commitment to add 50,000 long-term care beds.
He says years of hard work has finally paid off.
The new home will add another 69 new beds bringing a total capacity to 192.
Patterson says Kingston is preparing to bring in people who want to spend the rest of their lives here.
He says he is impressed with the amenities that Limestone Ridge brings.
The facility replaces the Extendicare home on Bath Road.
It took about 6 years before work on the long-term care home was complete.
CEO of Extendicare Michael Guerriere says residents who were in the old location were excited after moving in to the new place.
The home has 6 self-contained ‘resident home areas’, each of which creates a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents.
Each RHA has resident rooms, a dining area, activity space and a spa room.
The home also provides enhanced programming, including restorative and palliative care, as well as a café/country kitchen, space for family dining, a chapel, and a beauty salon and barber shop.
