A powerful presentation at the Museum of Lennox & Addington will shine a light on one of Canada’s most overlooked chapters—The British Home Children.
On Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Lori Oschefski, founder of Home Children Canada, will lead a talk exploring the history and legacy of more than 100,000 children sent from Britain to Canada between 1869 and 1948.
Many of these young migrants faced hardship, isolation, and forced labour. Despite their struggles, they helped build the foundation of modern Canada.
The event is part of the museum’s Genealogy Club and supports the current exhibition The Home Child. Topics include the origins of the migration programs, personal stories, wartime contributions, and tips for tracing British Home Children in family trees.
The event is free for club members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
