A major piece of Ontario’s history will be honoured June 15 during the 241st anniversary of the United Empire Loyalists’ landing at Adolphustown. The event begins at 2 p.m. at the historic St. Alban’s Centre and will feature the world premiere of The Mary Ruttan Story, a locally made documentary starring local student Madeline Gaudet.
A service led by Rev. Canon Donald A. Bailey and a community tea will follow the ceremony on the rectory lawn.
Organizers say the celebration honours the Loyalists who arrived on June 16, 1784, led by Major Peter Van Alstine. They helped shape what would become Upper Canada, later Ontario.
Adolphustown played a vital role in early governance, transportation, and community life.
The Friends of St. Alban’s Centre hope the event raises awareness about the region’s rich Loyalist heritage. The Centre is located at 10419 Loyalist Parkway, part of Greater Napanee.
