Two drivers from Prince Edward County are facing impaired driving charges after separate late-night incidents over the weekend in Picton.
On Saturday, May 24, 2025, around 11:00 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Main Street after it was seen driving erratically. Officers with the Prince Edward County detachment gave the driver a roadside test using an approved alcohol screening device. The driver, 62-year-old Jeffrey Hounsell, was arrested and taken to the detachment for more testing.
In a second incident, early Sunday morning on May 25, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., OPP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Pitt Street area. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a roadside alcohol test, and arrested the driver. Dean Derry, age 28, was taken to the detachment for further testing.
Both accused are charged with operation while impaired and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 80. They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 18, 2025.
Each driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
