Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after human remains were discovered in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory on Saturday, May 17. Officers from the Lennox and Addington OPP detachment responded shortly before 3 p.m. to a site near Highway 49, between Old Highway 2 and Lower Slash Road.
The remains appear to have been there for some time. Police say there is no risk to public safety at this time but confirm that an increased police presence will be visible in the area during the investigation.
The OPP’s Forensic Identification Services Unit, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting with the case, which is still in its early stages.
