The Greater Napanee Youth Services Coalition has proposed a new youth wellness hub to support young people in the region. Michelle Hauser and Shannon Ruddy presented the deputation to Greater Napanee Council during their meeting this week.
The coalition, made up of 16 local youth-serving agencies, aims to provide a central space where youth aged 12 to 29 can access programs focused on mental health, skills development, housing, and more.
They’ve proposed the hub would be located at 12 Market Square in downtown Napanee, offering a safe and inclusive environment for young people.
Hauser shared the benefits to the youth are significant by offering a safe and welcoming space.
Councilors raised questions about the age range and the mix of younger and older youth in the same space. In response, the coalition clarified that services would be scheduled to meet the needs of each age group.
Council members agreed to further explore the proposal and will receive a staff report on the potential use of 12 Market Square. A decision will be made after evaluating space availability, costs, and the needed resources for the initiative.
