Greater Napanee is getting ready for two major community events this summer — the first-ever Great Bay of Quinte Barbecue Competition and the return of the annual Greater Napanee Pride Parade and Pride in the Park.
The barbecue competition will take place in Market Square on Saturday, August 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Organized by Donald Stokes, the event is expected to attract hundreds to the downtown area and become an annual summer tradition. Council approved the application under its new community events policy. The town will provide two portable toilets, and the organizer will supply the rest. Staff reported no concerns and will continue helping with event logistics.
The Greater Napanee Pride Parade and Pride in the Park will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Conservation Park. The parade runs from 10 to 11 a.m. and follows a route from the park to Springside Park and back along Dundas and Centre Streets. Pride in the Park activities include live music, vendors, and kids’ entertainment. A rolling road closure for the parade will be managed through the County, as in past years. Conservation Park’s parking lot will close briefly in the morning to allow vendors to set up safely. The event marks the fourth year of Napanee Pride’s celebration.
Council approved both events with strong support, and staff will continue to assist organizers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
