The Community Foundation for Lennox & Addington has launched a new fund to support poverty reduction, thanks to a generous gift from Shelley and Dr. Doug Alkenbrack. The Alkenbrack Family Fund will help support local causes that give families in L&A County a hand up during tough times.
Dr. Alkenbrack, a retired family physician and former coroner, spent 50 years caring for residents in Napanee. “Our family has always felt that it is important to give back to our community,” said Doug. “I have been volunteering with Morningstar Mission for a number of years have seen firsthand that many families need a hand up with local community support.”
“With this donation, we hope to make a difference by contributing funds close to home and inspiring others to join us in supporting local causes through the Community Foundation,” said Shelley
The Foundation says poverty, the environment, and healthcare are key focus areas for future funding. The Alkenbrack Family Fund becomes the 43rd fund under the Foundation’s care.
Dr. Alkenbrack, who grew up in Napanee, comes from a family deeply rooted in public service and education. He and Shelley now enjoy time with their three children and eight grandchildren.
