Thursday night the Napanee Raiders hosted the Hanover Barons for game 7 of their Schmalz Cup Semifinal series. This was the Napanee Raiders first elimination game of the entire post-season.
After a scoreless first period, the Barons scored twice in the second period to take a 2-0 lead. But late in the period, Blake Aylesworth would score for the Raiders to bring them within one goal. Hanover scored first in the third period to secure their lead. Then, less than a minute later, Trent Williams scored for the Raiders to once again bring them within one goal, 3-2. After the half way point of the period, Hanover scored their fourth of the night to lead 4-2. With less than a minute and a half to play, Hanover scored in the empty Raiders goal for a 5-2 Hanover win.
Hanover moves on to play Essex in the Schmalz Cup Final.
The Raiders went 32-8-1-1 in the regular season and 19-8 so in the playoffs. The team was named Tod Division Champs after a 4-2 series win over the Frankford Huskies. They then moved on to sweep the Clarington Eagles 4-0 to be named Eastern Conference Champions.
