An early morning RIDE program by the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led to the arrest of one driver on April 27, 2025.
Officers were conducting the program on Highway 62 at approximately 2:00 a.m. when an Approved Screening Device was used. The device resulted in the arrest of Jonah Murrant, 28, of Belleville. Murrant faces charges of operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and exceeding the legal blood alcohol concentration limit (80+).
He was taken to the detachment for further testing, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. His vehicle was also impounded for seven days. Murrant was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on May 14, 2025.
OPP reminds the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect someone is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as it may help save a life.
