The Town of Deseronto has donated a decommissioned fire truck to John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph to support its First Responder program.
The donation will give students hands-on experience with real firefighting equipment. They will learn important skills like hose rolling, tool identification, and basic firefighting operations. The goal is to better prepare students for future careers in emergency services.
The fire truck was originally set for auction, but after it failed to meet a reserve bid, the Town chose to donate it to support education instead.
Town staff, Council, and school officials worked together to make the donation happen. The decision reflects Deseronto’s commitment to community partnerships, education, and public safety.
The truck’s second life will help inspire students and honour the service it once provided in Deseronto.
Town leaders say they are proud to invest in training the next generation of firefighters and emergency workers.
