Shelby Kramp-Neuman, incumbent MP and the Conservative candidate for Hastings-Lennox and Addington-Tyendinaga in the upcoming federal election, is drawing on her deep local roots and diverse experience to address critical issues facing her community.
Born and raised in Madoc, Kramp-Neuman has lived and worked in the region her entire life. Before entering politics, she spent 15 years on Center Hastings Municipal Council, served as a financial advisor, and taught at Loyalist College. Her experience in global affairs and internships in Ottawa further strengthened her qualifications. Kramp-Neuman’s motivation to run for office is rooted in her desire to steer Canada toward a better future, one that can overcome the challenges it currently faces.
Among the biggest issues in the riding, Kramp-Neuman points to the housing crisis, rising cost of living, and support for seniors. She also raised concerns about a weakening economy, rising inflation, and unsafe communities. Throughout her campaign, she has heard consistent feedback from constituents, highlighting these challenges. Kramp-Neuman believes that these problems need urgent attention, with a particular focus on strengthening Canada’s economy and restoring trust in its institutions. She says it’s time for accountability and action to bring about meaningful change for residents in her riding.
In terms of solutions, Kramp-Neuman emphasizes the Conservative Party’s plan to address the housing crisis by reducing bureaucracy and incentivizing municipalities to speed up building permits. The party’s housing strategy also includes a GST exemption for new homes under $1.3 million, which could save families up to $65,000. For the cost of living, Kramp-Neuman proposes a 15% income tax cut, saving the average family $1,800 annually, along with the removal of the carbon tax. This would lower costs on gas, heating, and food, providing relief to families feeling the squeeze.
Kramp-Neuman also discussed the unpredictable global trade environment, particularly regarding tariffs. She outlined the Conservative Party’s approach to renegotiating the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement, advocating for a pause on tariffs during negotiations. She stressed the importance of protecting Canadian sovereignty, particularly in regard to border control, resources, and workers, ensuring that Canada’s interests remain at the forefront of any international discussions.
With the election fast approaching, Kramp-Neuman is urging voters to engage with the issues, get informed, and make their voices heard. She acknowledged the strong volunteer support her campaign has received and emphasized the importance of voting in this critical election.
