The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Canadian Coast Guard are warning ice fishing hut owners near Bath and Amherst Island to remove their huts before Saturday, March 8, 2025. The MV Sunnanvik vessel will approach the Lafarge cement facility at 6:00 a.m., causing ice in the area to become dangerously unstable.
The ice’s stability will be affected across a wide area, and it is strongly recommended that no one be on the ice Saturday morning. Those with huts in the area are urged to take necessary precautions and remove their equipment to avoid potential danger.

Original Article posting March 3, 2025: Anglers in the Bath area are being urged to remove their ice huts before Thursday, March 6th, when the MV Sunnavik vessel will approach the Lafarge cement facility.
The vessel will pass from the west side of Amherst Island at dawn, and its passage is expected to destabilize the ice, making it unsafe. Those who fish or have ice huts in the area should avoid being on the ice that morning. The public is advised to notify anyone who may be affected by the potential risk.
