Big changes are coming to recycling in Greater Napanee as the Ontario government shifts responsibility for blue box collection and processing to product producers starting January 1, 2026.
Under the new system, producers of packaging and products will cover the costs of recycling materials like paper, plastic, glass, and aluminum. This means the Town of Greater Napanee will no longer handle curbside blue box collection. Instead, Circular Materials Ontario will oversee recycling collection, while the Town will continue managing garbage collection.
Businesses, nonprofits, and other non-eligible properties will lose blue box collection and must find private recycling services. Waste Disposal Sites will also stop accepting recyclables.
Mayor Terry Richardson is asking residents to be patient during the transition. The Town will provide updates through social media, mail, and local media.
